How Often Should You Clean Your Air Ducts in Orange County
Three to five years is the usual rhythm, but a few things in your house can move that number sooner.

Most homes benefit from air duct cleaning every three to five years. That is the schedule we give customers in Anaheim, Irvine, Yorba Linda, Long Beach, San Clemente and the rest of Orange County, and it is a starting point, not a rule carved in stone. Some houses need it sooner, and a few can stretch it a bit longer.
What builds up inside your ducts
Your system pulls house air in through the return side, runs it past the filter, and pushes it back out through the supply vents. Whatever the filter misses rides along and settles inside the ductwork. Dust, pollen, pet hair and small bits of debris collect on the duct walls, and in long runs with plenty of bends the layer gets thicker.
A thin film is normal. A heavy layer is a different story. It can trigger allergies, make the system work harder to move air, and leave some rooms feeling less comfortable than others.
When to clean sooner than five years
- You have pets. Hair and dander get pulled into the returns all day long, and the ducts collect it.
- Someone in the house has allergies. If the same dust keeps coming back after you clean the house, the ducts are worth a look.
- You recently remodeled or renovated. Drywall dust, sawdust and construction debris travel through open vents and into the system.
- The filter went a long time without being changed. A neglected filter lets far more through to the ducts.
- You can see dust blowing out of the vents, or surfaces get dusty again within a few days of wiping them.
What a cleaning visit looks like
We start with a walkthrough to count the vents and plan the work, then we clean. For an average home the job takes about 1.5 to 2.5 hours. Before anyone comes out, you get a free estimate over the phone based on your vent count, and the walkthrough confirms it. Same-day scheduling is available whenever possible.
We use NADCA-certified equipment with a powerful negative-air suction system paired with a HEPA vacuum, which pulls contaminants from deep inside the ductwork instead of just stirring dust around near the grill. When the job is done, we send before-and-after pictures of your system so you can see the difference for yourself.
Your filter still matters in between
Duct cleaning does not replace changing your filter. A clean, correctly sized filter catches more before it ever reaches the ducts, which helps the time between cleanings last. Check it on a regular schedule, and change it sooner if you have shedding pets or a dusty season.
